All users of the pool must read and be familiar with the following rules.
Note: There is no lifeguard at the Buffalo Colony pool. Please use common sense and follow these rules, which are required by New York State as well as the Colony. Know your own limitations.
-
The pool may only be used only during daylight hours. The maximum number of bathers is 32.
-
There must always be a cell phone at the pool.
-
Children under the age of 16 years old MUST be supervised at all times by their parent or guardian, or another adult who specifically enters into an agreement with the parent or guardian to watch the child.
-
No child under the age of 16 may enter the pool area unaccompanied by a responsible adult.
-
If children are in the pool, at least one adult must be on the deck, watching carefully. No parent or guardian may leave their child with another adult unless that adult agrees to be responsible for their child. Do not agree to watch children if you feel you could not respond to an emergency situation.
-
At least two adults over the age of 18 MUST be present for pool use if no children are present.
-
Children under the age of 18 must pass the following test to be allowed to swim in the deep end (past the four foot line): (a) tread water for one minute and (b) swim two widths continuously (any stroke).
-
Diving is permitted only beyond the ladder at the deep end. Diving is permitted only when that area is clear of swimmers.
-
No running in the pool area.
-
Flotation devices are NOT permitted in the pool except for water wings or noodles which are allowed only up to the 4' foot deep line. Children can easily get into trouble underneath a large floatation device, and no one can see them.
-
No playing with pool equipment including pool hose, life preservers, etc.
-
Do not sit, stand or hang on the buoy rope. (The rope can shed dangerous bristles; if the hook is pulled out, the wall can be damaged. Only the caretaker is permitted to unhook the line.)
-
All toys and equipment and personal items must be removed when leaving the pool area.
-
No eating within two feet of the pool edge. (If cups or wrappers fall into the pool, they can block the drain and cause the pool pump to bum out.)
-
Glass of any kind is not allowed in the pool area. All drinks or food must be carried and served in paper, plastic or aluminum containers.
-
No alcohol at the pool. Please use common sense and do not swim while under the influence of alcohol.
-
The pool will be closed if there is heavy rain, lightning or thunder in the vicinity.
-
The pool gate must be locked when the pool is not in use, and closed at all times. Last person out must check that the lock is locked.
-
Guests must be accompanied by the cooperators or renters who invited them.
-
All users of the pool must be familiar with first aid and life-saving equipment.
-
No animals in the pool area.
-
Anyone violating these pool rules may be asked to leave the pool area.
